Counters
From LBPedia
Counters, you know things that count, all counters are different. Maybe a counter only counts up, maybe it also goes down. The important thing about choosing or making a counter is that it does what you need while using the least amount of thermometer possible.
Examples
tuxsbro's couters
Tuxsbro has a youtube video about making a counter but that counter is old. Here's a much better counter that is much smaller and portible, but it only counts up. (for now :D)
So heres how this thing works. On the left hand side there's the emitter near the bottom, thats the input, then thats triggered it emits a "count trigger". A count trigger is nothing more than 2 peices of material (disslove in this case) with 2 switch triggers. Also there is a sensor on each block that is hooked to disslove itself.
On each number there are 2 sensors, 1 blue and 1 orange. The blue one is hooked up to the emitter on the bottom right of the number, and the orange one is hooked to disslove the number. When the blue one is triggered the emitter it's hooked to pops out a block of dark matter with a red switch on it. The position the red switch is emitted determines which new number will be emitted by activating one of the sensors on the bottom. The red sensors on the bottom are all hooked to the emitters on top which each hold a different number that is emitted when called.
Now the reason the count trigger is made of disslove is because just setting its emitters lifetime to 0.1 isn't fast enough, the counter would actually count twice in that time. So a trigger is hiding on the bottom of the frame that triggers both squares right when they are emitted, but it stil has enough time to activate the switches.
